Dec. 9th
The atom Shamrock hockey team sponsored by Gary Graham Transport took the wind out of the Mooretown Storm in Glencoe Sunday December 9th. Both teams battled for the puck in the first period and the crowd saw several close calls on either end. With 3 minutes remaining in the period hard working Jacob Kelly beat the Mooretown goalie to put Southwest in the lead. Charlie Pierce takes credit for helping.
Second period action saw each team push harder. With a minute in the period remaining a
shorthanded Mooretown got an equalizer to tie the game at 1. Southwest kept the puck in Mooretown’s end
after the faceoff and Braxton Haggith fed the puck from the corner to the hash
mark. Shane DePelsmaeker went deep and fired
the puck over the Mooretown’s goalie’s glove to put Southwest in the lead.
5 minutes into the
third Mooretown tied it up once again.
The last five minutes of the game was a push to take the win.
Southwest’s Tanner Doxtator found a loose puck and shot it five-hole past the
goal line to make the game 3-2.
Southwest secured the win 3 minutes later when Haggith shot the puck
from the corner to the front of the Mooretown net, Elijaah Barnes blocked it
and Cooper Aubertin tipped it to beat the Mooretown goalie. Final score was 4-2
for Southwest.
Next hockey action is Sunday December 16th when
the team plays host to the East Lambton Eagles.
