Hi Crew see below for discussion on tournaments, new years day and AP players....

Hi everyone - the staff discussed last night a plan of attach for tournaments with the following summary....

Tartan tournament (our home tournament), John Henry (Strathroy at xmas) and Seaforth Tournament in February.  The plan with the Seaforth tournament is we could stay over as a team in Godrich or Stratford.

Costs are $550+$650+$650 = $1850/14 = $132 plus hotel in Seaforth.  Any monies made from 50/50 during our games also goes to pay for these costs.  The process is that Southwest Minor Hockey writes the cheque for the tournament and we have to pay them back.

With this in mind it is very important that we have a few people step up to run (and promote) the 50/50 table at our home games. My hope is that if we start doing well with the 50/50 we can look at adding another tournament in March without increasing our costs alot.

New Years Day - so we are going to do a "pregame" game on January 1st in Sarnia before the Sarnia Sting vs London Knights game.  This is a great event and we get alot of "bang" for the buck.  Cost is $9.50 for kids and $15 for adults and we need to sell 30 tickets which should be pretty easy.  I have put feelers out to the PeeWee Shamrock and Atom Shamrock to see if any of those teams are interested in joining for an exhibition whether split squad or what-ever.  The seats are great, right up against the glass, and if I recall the bar is open during our game.

A/P players - so I was approached by the Shamrock coach and signed some forms for A/P players.  This means these players have the privilege to take part in the Shamrock team practices and games when asked.  The coaches have discussed the expectations with those players and their parents (Hamilton's we need to do this with you still).   The expectations are that these players are at our practices and games first, and the other team second.  Jack and I will be reasonable with special requests - (I.e. if filling in for injuries or the like).  My short take is that A/P players need to respect their opportunity, and ensure our team is first.

Practices - you will notice we are trying to do drills that involve a lot of skating, passing, puck carrying and game like situations as opposed to just skating around pylons (well except Jack and I we are kid of like pylons out there).  This is on purpose as we are stressing a control (opposition/puck/time and space) game and think skating and passing can be achieved in game-like drills.  We would rather the kids be confident in controlling the puck even if it means skating towards their end, rather than just dumping it away to move it forward.  We always welcome feedback from the stands on how things seam to be going with drills/practices - the staff is pretty happy with the players' work ethics to date.

Oh also I Matthew Bryant has come out to work with Ethan - please make him feel welcome - it is a huge plus for a young goalie to have a mentor.

I think this novel has covered everything to date.  My family is off to Chicago for four days so Jack and Kevin will be running the show on Saturday.

We'll see everyone next Wednesday!
