Seaforth Tournament Information
See the following from the Seaforth convener...
Here is some general information about the Doug Perkes Tournament.
FOOD
A meal ticket will be issued to every player and coaching staff for a lunch meal either on
the Friday or Saturday. Lunch will be pizza or chili and a bun with a salad and will be
served from 11:30am to 2:30pm on Friday and Saturday. Drinks will also be provided
(milk and juice). Lunch will also be available for parents and families and fans to
purchase. There are a few restaurant options in Seaforth, check the poster in the main
foyer for options.
AWARDS
Doug Perkes was a man who was never the flashiest or fastest, but always was the one
who tried the hardest in any sport he played. Thus we are going to be issuing awards
after each game. There will be 3 awards given to players from each team for either the
hardest working, “unsung hero” or for a player who surpassed his usual abilities. We will
be polling each coach after the game for the players on their team who should get this
award. At the end of the tournament a player from each team will be awarded a hockey
stick, for the person who again has worked the hardest during the tournament or who
just deserves the reward, not because they scored the most goals but because they did
their own personal best. Two years ago one team picked a kid who had never had a
composite stick and the look on the kid’s face was absolutely wonderful. Another team
was decimated by flu and would have had to withdraw as their goalie was sick so a
player from another centre stepped in and went in net and he got the stick for his team.
Finally every player will be awarded something for their participation and everyone will
also get a tournament hat. The hats will be given at the end of the first game and kids
are encouraged to wear them for the tournament. There will be someone in the hall
who will put the player’s name and or number on the hat for a small fee.
OTHER INFORMATION
Hopefully no one needs to know this, but there is a hospital in Seaforth and a doctor at
the arena during every game.
We are going to have a PS3, Wii and perhaps an Xbox set up, along with some cards and
board games designed to keep 11 and 12 years old busy. There will also be a big screen
with coverage of the Olympics. A designated mini-stick area will also be available in the
hall.
Hotels can be found in Stratford, Goderich or Clinton for those that want to overnight it.
Please remember… the main goal of the tournament is to play hockey and for the kids to
have some fun.
