Novice Shamrock miss by a goal
The Glencoe Lions Novice Shamrock team travelled to Dresden to take on the Junior Kings. This see- saw game was sure to be a barn burner
The bullets started slow struggling to clear the puck from their end in the first spotting Dresden 2 goals to finish the first period. The second period Southwest showed their resiliency and came out shooting. One minute into the second period with some good digging by Jaxon Aubertin forced the puck to be turned over to the bullets with a pass from the “stud” defence man Will Lambrecht to let Brad McAlpine notch one to close the Dresden lead to one. Aubertin not to be forgotten on the same shift notched one of his own to even the score 48 seconds later to tie the game up. By this point the bullets were loaded and ready to fire at a moment’s notice when the chances presented themselves. More digging behind the Dresden net by Jordan McIntyre holding the play in their end proved to be worth the effort. Giving McAlpine the chance to pot another one. McAlpine went ahead to score one more to put Southwest up to a 4-2 lead after the second. McAlpine had his hat trick by then. In the third period parents were having a trouble sitting down as the action of end to end hockey had everyone jumping around as the bullets had their first lead in quite a few games. Dresden with their never give up attitude came back in the third scoring 2 goals in a minute span. With one of the goals being a four on four situation as both teams having players in the box. McAlpine came out to redeem himself after his penalty scoring 16 seconds later and his fourth of the game assisted by McIntyre to go ahead 5-4. Dresden then scored another to tie up the game with eight minutes left. With 3:21 left Southwest was called for a tripping penalty. Twenty –one seconds later Dresden buried the puck past Devin “the Brick” Graham. Southwest came blazing back trying to tie the game up in the dying minutes but to no avail. Mr Big Deal Chocolate bars went to Devin Graham and Jordan McIntyre. Final score Dresden 6 Southwest 5.
