The Southwest Bullets opened the tournament Thursday night by defeating the West Lorne Comets.  Southwest took the lead to end the first period.  Goal scorer was Elijah Barnes with defenders Dylan Gould and Elizabeth Van Bilsen as helpers.  The Comets got one in the second to tie the game up.

It was a battle for the puck in the third but both goalies were unbeatable and forced an overtime period. The Bullets were determined to get the job done and 16 seconds in overtime play Charlie Pierce beat the Comet’s netminder with Jacob Kelly taking credit for the assist. Final score 2-1. Ethan Peixoto was confident in net and made several great saves that earned cheers from the crowd. Saturday morning Southwest crossed back over the 401 to play the Wainfleet Wild. The first period was scoreless in spite of the Bullets having countless scoring opportunities. After Southwest’s Pierce beat the Wild goalie with a strong wrist shot the play was stopped and the referees decided that Wainfleet scored minutes before and gave the Wild the lead. The Bullets refused to let the questionable call get them down and pushed even harder and beat the Wild goalie with 37 seconds left in the period. Pierce got his point back to tie the game at 1. The gates opened up for Southwest in the third as they scored 4 more goals, 3 of those all within one minute. Goal scorers were Jack McAlpine, Kelly, Ethan Carruthers and Barnes. Assists go to Van Bilsen, Kelly, and Barnes. The final score was 5-1 and Southwest Game 3 for Southwest was at 8pm Saturday night against Lambeth, one of the top teams in the league. Southwest battled back and forth and were ahead by 2 going into the second. During a scramble Carruthers shot the puck over the Comet’s goalie’s shoulder within the first minute of the period. Minutes later Tanner Doxtator won the face off and went down and did a wicked wrist shot that flew over the goalie’s shoulder. The Comets managed to sneak one past Southwest’s netminder Peixoto during the second period. The third saw the Bullets play shorthanded 6 of the 10 minutes. Great defensive play kept the Comets at bay. Southwest widened their lead when Kelly fired the puck from in front of the net after taking a feed from Barnes and Carruthers. The final score was 3-1. The team was headed to the finals. In the final game of the tournament the team faced off against the strong Lambeth team again. The score did not reflect how well the Southwest Bullets played. Ethan Peixoto stood strong in net and his great saves kept the team’s energy level high. The team pushed hard to the end and the final score was 6-0, a great improvement from the previous game against this team. Overall a great weekend of hockey and the team brought home finalist medals.
